Bumpers College Tops $1 Million in Scholarship Funding for First Time

Over the last five years, 70 percent of students who apply and complete the application process have been offered at least one scholarship.

The Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences has reached a milestone by offering more than $1 million in scholarships for the first time.

According to Project Director for Scholarships, Development and External Relations Heather Parks, the college and its nine units made $1,035,000 million in scholarship funding available to students for 2021-22.

Maui Federal Credit Union CEO and president Clayton Fuchigami announced $1,000 higher-education scholarships were awarded to three credit union members who were chosen during a random drawing.

The recipients and their respective university programs are:

  • Jerome Butac, Pacific University, Applied Sciences
  • Mary Jicel Butac, UH Maui College, Nursing
  • Kainalu Yoshida, Seattle University, Biology

Columbia College celebrates launch of Nadria Wright memorial scholarship



Columbia College is celebrating the launch of the Nadria Leeann Wright Memorial Nursing Scholarship Wednesday, nearly two years after her death.

Wright was shot and killed in September 2019 amidst a wave of gun violence in Columbia. She was the seventh person that year to die from gun violence. In March, a judge sentenced Javion Lawhorn to seven years in prison in connection with her death.

At the time of her death, 18-year-old Wright was a freshman nursing student at Columbia College. Now, Wright’s namesake scholarship will serve students in the same degree path.

Local couple gift Blinn College with scholarship

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Britt and Errin Bullard have created a Blinn College Scholarship that will benefit students in the Bryan Independent School District.

The Bullards are gifting $1,500 annually to the Blinn College Foundation. The scholarship will be for academics or workforce training and will go to a Bryan ISD graduate who is a first-generation college student.

“First-generation students have the greatest needs, the greatest obstacles, and the greatest opportunities for advancement,” Britt Bullard said. “We are pleased to help these students as they get their start at Blinn College.”

Maryland unveils college scholarship lottery to get teens vaccinated

Maryland will offer full-ride college scholarships as an incentive to get teenagers vaccinated against COVID-19, Gov. Larry Hogan (R) announced Wednesday. 

The VaxU Scholarship Promotion will offer $50,000 scholarships, or the equivalent of full tuition and fees for a public four-year college or university, to 20 vaccinated students between the ages of 12 and 17. 

Beginning July 12 and running for eight weeks, two winners will be randomly selected each Monday. On Labor Day, four additional winners will be selected.
