‘Color Run’ raises scholarship money for Senior students with a noble purpose

CEDAR FALLS, IOWA (KWWL) — Members of the Cedar Falls community got together at “Big Woods Lake” Sunday afternoon, to run a 5 kilometer race with colors decorating the way.

The 2021 Color Run event was hosted by non-profit organization, ‘Do Better, Be Better’, with the intent on raising scholarship money for senior students who have either been through a medical hardship or has helped someone through a medical hardship. The scholarships are about $1000 a piece.

The event today saw about 120 participants.

The program was founded by Jamie Smith who suffered a stroke while 15 weeks pregnant with her fourth daughter back in 2013. Jamie suffered a second stroke on February 15, 2016 and had Pontine brain surgery on March 4, 2016.

Jamie has since recovered and her non-profit aims to reciprocate the same kindness and generosity she felt from others in her time of need.
